McQueen- and Michael Kors-Inspired Summer Brights!

As resort season arrives, we begin to see the first of this year's Resort Collections. So far, we're loving Cynthia Steff, Jenni Kayne, and Yves Saint Laurent's contributions, but perhaps our favorite trends lie in the collections of Michael Kors and the late Alexander McQueen. In both collections, we see loud prints, bold lines, and neons in bright pops of orange, pink, yellow, and electric blue.

Now that the McQueen line in in-house and all creative decisions are overseen by Sarah Burton, we didn't know quite what to expect from the first Resort Collection created in the famous designer's namesake. The runway show not only debuted the collection itself, but it also gave a first look at McQueen's first handbag line as well as the recently launched footwear collection.

As for the clothing itself, it seems to have been inspired by scuba suits and motorcycle gear. The collection largely consists of tight, body-con dresses and wide-legged trousers, with grunge-inspired details including zippers, buckles, and studs. Among the standout styles, there are also a handful of delicate minidresses and feminine leather jackets. The main color palette consists of blue, pink, orange, and black, in addition to bold prints drawn from abstract images.

"You know, I hate designing resort collections because I don’t like the resort lifestyle,” Michael Kors claims, while  introducing look number one from his resort collection. The designer took an extended visit to Sydney, Australia, in preparation to designing the much-acclaimed collection.

Similar to McQueen's collection, Michael Kors was also inspired by scuba diving silhouettes. But, his collection doesn't end there. Versatality is key to Michael Kors, which clearly shows through in his resort line. The collection consists of tight tennis dresses, maxi dressed, cropped 'Bobby Brady' pants, cashmere sweaters, short sleeved shirts, cropped jackets, pleated skirts, and T-shirts. Similar to McQueen's collection, the main color palette consists of neons like green and pink, but it also adds in soft, foiled gold and animal prints.
