Beauty Looks from Christian Dior Fall 2011 Couture

While we thought the actual fashion on the runway of Christian Dior's Fall 2011 show was extreme, it was nothing compared to the makeup! Although the beauty looks may have been a little extreme, the heavy use of opaque shades were undoubtedly striking. Here are a few tips to create a more wearable version of the colorblock-style eyes:

1. Begin with a medium teal, similar to Inglot's 504. Apply the shade under the browbone and on the upper lid.

2. With a medium rose shade, like Inglot's 495, apply the shadow on the full lid. Apply two coats to assure an opaque look.

3. Dip a Q-tip in makeup remover and rub on skin to better define the outlines of each color.

4. With black liquid eyeliner, like Sephora's Aqua Liner, draw a thick a thick line above lashes. Once the desire thickness is acheived, extend the line into an exaggerated cat eye, about a half inch past the outer crease of the lids.

5. Coat eyelashes in a true black mascara, like Buxom Buxom's Amplified Mascara, to create a dramatic look.

Creating The Aquanaut with NEW Aqua Liner

In celebration of Make Up For Ever’s NEW Aqua Liner, Sephora has enlisted Make Up For Ever’s National Educator, Jessie Powers, to show us how to use Aqua Liner! Here, Jessie walks us through how to create the ‘aquanaut’ look using Aqua Liner. Above is a diagram of exactly how the end result should look. If you can’t seem to read the super tiny steps above, here they are below:

1. Draw a thin line of liquid liner centered on the upper lash line directly above the pupil.

2. To create the liner “tail”, choose the end point of your tail slightly above and outside the natural lash line. Then, with your eyes open and focused forward, draw a line from the tail’s end point down toward the outer corner of the lash line.

3. Next, with the eyes open and focused forward, draw a line from the end of the tail connecting it to the liner on the center of the upper lash line. Continue these strokes until the tail is completely filled in.

4. Finally, draw a liner from the inner corner of the upper lash line to the middle of the upper lash line, connecting the two sections.

5. To embellish the cat eye, draw a thin line of Aqua Liner 'Turquoise' directly above the black liner being careful to taper both the inner and outer corners.

6. Then, beginning slightly outside and horizontal to the lower lash line, draw a thin line to the center of the lower lash line connecting the two segments.

7. Finally, beginning slightly lower and closer to the nose than the inner lash line, draw a thin line toward the middle of the lower lash line, connecting the two sections.

Sephora by OPI Launches Urban Ballerina Collection

Black Swan Inspired Nail Polish Hits Sephora Stores Nationwide!

As the thrill of Black swan continues to live on (Check out Rodarte’s exhibit of Black Swan Costumes!), we can’t help but get psyched over the newest addition to the world of the demented ballerina. This addition, although not quite as demented as it is sweet, comes in the form of nail polish.

Last week Sephora by OPI launched its newest collection, titled Urban Ballerina. Although there is no direct affiliation with the now-famous Natalie Portman film, Black Swan, it’s not too difficult to guess where the inspiration came from. Here’s what Sephora has to say:

“Inspired by the eclectic style of an urban ballerina, these colors infuse a punk-rock edge with the typically soft, sweet (and pink) palette of classical ballet. The shades in the Urban Ballerina collection reflect the urban dancer's dynamic textures and colors, like shimmering pink satin and the steely gray of downtown buildings.”

The colors are available online in a pack of four. The featured colors are Leotard-Optional, The Way Tutu His Heart, Who's Spinning Tonight?, and Break a Leg-Warmer!

Sephora Launches The First Unretouched Makeup Ad

Last Week, HD Invisible Cover Foundation Was Featured In The First Ever Unretouched Makeup Ad!

In a world where people are fake and their noses are faker, it’s quite difficult to find something natural. Or rather, it was. Last week, Sephora launched its, and the world’s, first ever unretouched make up campaign. The ad features a model holding a camera, about to take a picture of herself. Her makeup and skin look absolutely perfect, and we would otherwise believe that the ad is photoshoped, if not for the bold statement in the center of the page: “You’re looking at the first unretouched makeup ad.”

The ad is for Sephora’s new Make Up For Ever brand, and it began appearing in major magazines this month. The product featured is Make Up For Ever’s new HD Invisible Cover Foundation. Sephora claims that while wearing the foundation, even high definition photography will “struggle to find imperfections.”

“Both professional make-up artists and Sephora clients have embraced HD Invisible Cover Foundation, making it the go to for hand-applied high definition make up,” says Gilles Kortzagadarian, general manager of Make Up For Ever North America. “Our objective for this campaign is to reach consumers who have not tried the product range and prove that it truly creates a complexion so flawless, there’s no need for retouching, even for an ad visual.”

Hello Kitty for Sephora

Are you anywhere near as in love with the new Hello Kitty Collection at Sephora as I am?? I doubt it. As soon as I heard about it, I instantly knew it would be a hit! I was visiting home in Florida this past weekend, and although the beach was calling and the sun was shining, I couldn't resist wandering into the mall, and more importantly, into Sephora! And there, I saw it: Hello Kitty, sparkles and all, front and center, at Sephora.

Of course, spending $50 on a compact mirror is a bit ridiculous, even if it is covered in rhinestones. (I know, I can't believe I just said that either!) But, spending $16 on a far beyond adorable gold sparkly eye pencil isn't. Unless you ask my mom's opinion, but that's a different story...

I'm IN LOVE with my Hello Kitty Eyeliner, as well as the rest of the collection. If you haven't experienced the magic of Hello Kitty at Sephora just yet, you're definitely missing out! Here are the promo photos, enjoy!
