Christian Louboutin Window Displays at Barney's

Christian Louboutin: "Wearing high heels is like having an orgasm."

To celebrate 20 years of Christian Louboutin's red-soled wonders, Barney's New York has created a series of window displays to honor the famed designer. The windows are extremely elaborate in production and appearance, only to represent the amount of work, passion, and detail that goes into the design of each individual pair.

After experimentally painting the bottom of a shoe with red nail polish back in 1991, Christian Louboutin's sky-high heels have become almost as iconic as their red sole. And, although it may seem like an untouchable match made in stiletto heaven, equally luxe designer Yves Saint Laurent tried to rival Christian Louboutin's signature design with his own version of a red-soled heel. And, although the court ultimately ruled in favor of YSL, as a color cannot be copyrighted, Christian Louboutin will always be the king of the famous red sole.

Christian Louboutin's designs have been seen on everyone from Victoria Beckham, to Blake Lively, to even the infamous Kardashians. Author Danielle Steele is said to own over 6,000 pairs! The designer himself gives some insight as to why his designs are so popular: "Wearing high heels is like having an orgasm."

YSL Volupte Sheer Candy Launch

My newest obsession comes from none other than Yves Saint Laurent, who consistently delivers the absolute best in cosmetics. After reading about new Volupte Sheer Candy in the Nylon Blog, I was instantly in love. After all, anything in Nylon is greater than life. (Yes, you can quote that!)

Volupte Sheer Candy is a collection of six bright shades of lipstick, which are said to describe the Yves Saint Laurent woman. “She loves for the pleasure of loving. She listens to her desires.” The ultimate YSL woman (as well as the new Volupte Sheer Candy!) is described by international YSL makeup artist Lloyd Simmonds as “seduction, sensuality and temptation, bordering on sinfulness.”

As if that isn’t alluring enough, each of the six shades has a slight mango fragrance. It’s strong enough to evoke feelings of excitement, but yet subtle enough to avoid being overpowering. In addition to the added spring/summer scent, the packaging is simply gorgeous. Each tube combines silver, red, and yellow gold, accented with the famous YSL symbol, to create a truly unique and classic product, which will soon be a staple in your daily makeup routine. Or, at least it will be in mine.

YSL Volupte Sheer Candy is now available, for $30 each, in the following shades:
  1. N°1 Lush Coconut
  2. N°2 Dewy Papaya
  3. N°3 Juicy Grapefruit
  4. N°4 Succulent Pomegranate
  5. N°5 Mouthwatering Berry
  6. N°6 Luscious Cherry

YSL vs. Louboutin

The Debate Over The Red Sole Finds Its Way To Manhattan Courts

As any true fashionista knows, a red sole can only mean one thing: Louboutin! Ever since 1992, when Christian Louboutin first painted red nail polish on the bottom of one of his shoes, the red sole has become the unspoken trademark of the world’s most beloved heel.

Well, “unspoken” may be the key word here. Earlier this year, Yves Saint Laurent began selling his own version of the shoe, but without proper acknowledgement. YSL reps argue that no acknowledgement is needed, as the red sole is not trademarked.

Louboutin first heard about YSL’s design earlier this year, when YSL began selling his own red soled pumps in Saks Fifth Avenue, Barney’s New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, and Neiman Marcus. Louboutin has repeatedly requested that YSL stop selling the shoe, but it still remains on shelves.

"The location of the bright color on the outsole of a woman's pump is said to provide an alluring 'flash of red' when a woman walks down the street, or on the red carpet of a special event," the 27-page lawsuit says. Hollywood is filled with fans of Louboutin, including the casts of Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives, and Gossip Girl. We’ll just have to wait and see how it all unravels!
