Wish List: Vol 1 [General]

Last week, my boyfriend began his new job at Saks Fifth Avenue. (Did I neglect to mention that? Well, he now works in Saks Fifth Avenue's Corporate Office in Times Square!) So far, he absolutely LOVES it! And, he's good at it. I'm starting to think that I don't give him enough credit. After all, he has a serious, serious talent for what he does...

Anyways, probably my favorite part of his new job - in addition to his happiness, of course - is his discount!! I don't mean to be super Jewish right now (I AM A JEW, 100%, so I can say that!), but discounts are always nice. That holds true here as well, in a store where shoes cost upwards of thousands of dollars.

So, last Friday when we planned to go to Central Park, but soon realized that the humid Florida weather had followed us to the 'Big Apple', we headed over to 5th Ave. One reason why I absolutely ADORE my boyfriend is because unlike most guys, he loves to shop! In fact, it was his idea to spend the day exploring every floor of the giant Saks flagship. And so, we did.

Once arriving, I was in heaven. And that was only on the first floor- Cosmetics & Fragrances, AKA my future field! We continued up to middle and highest floors, and I realized that Louboutins are far less expensive than I imagined. I also realized that my boyfriend's heavy accent doesn't allow him to hear the difference between 'Louboutin' and 'Louis Vuitton'. SO CUTE!!!

As we finally arrive at the topic of this post, let me mention again that he will have access to thousands of designer pieces at steep discounts, and so, he told me to make a list of what I want [like any good boyfriend should]. So, here's to the first addition of my 'Wish List'!

[This is a short, general list of what first caught my eye, with no particular theme.]

Michael Kors

MICHAEL KORS Lace-Up One Piece Swim Suit ($252)

Louis Vuitton
LOUIS VUITTON Rhodes Open Toe Mule in Nubuck Calf Leather ($1,060)

Christian Louboutin

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN Lavalierre Bow Pumps ($795)

Fendi

FENDI Large Peekaboo Satchel ($2690)

So, what do you guys think?! Like my choices, or totally hate them? And, most importantly, what's on YOUR Wish List?

Bobbi Brown Almost Bare Collection Summer 2011

Bobbie Brown’s newest collection, Almost Bare, certainly holds true to her famous beliefs on how makeup should be. Small and sweet, the collection is complete with glosses, bronzing powder, and a perfume that embrace personal beauty. As the title would suggest, each piece is formulated to create the perfect sun-kissed look for summer.

Bobbie Brown’s original claim to fame was a line of ten natural-looking lipsticks, which quickly sold out almost as soon as they arrived at Bergdolf Goodman back in 1991. While staying true to her original goal, Bobbi Brown’s new High Shimmer Lip Gloss retains the natural look that her customers love, but also adds an ultra shiny finish that will keep the lips looking full throughout the day. The new High Shimmer Lip Gloss is available in Pink Tulle, Citrus, and Bellini, and it is Bobbi Brown’s highest shine gloss throughout her career.

Back when all blushes were unnaturally pink-based, Bobbie Brown gained recognition in the makeup industry for creating the first yellow-based  foundation. Now, Bobbi’s new bronzing powder has the perfect mix of red and brown, which will bring out the natural glow found in a true tan. It is made with mica-free powder, which insures that it will apply evenly on skin without looking unnatural. The bronzer is available in two colors- Deep Chocolate and Rich Cocoa- which work well with darker skin tones.

In true Bobbi Brown fashion, the Almost Bare Fragrance is soft and natural. It’s best described as a soothing, floral scent. The scent is further enhanced by subtle hints of violet, amber, and jasmine.

“From bronzers to the light shimmery glosses, The Almost Bare Collection creates the gorgeous sun kissed look you get after a day at the beach, one of my favorite sources of inspiration,” Bobbi Brown says of the collection.

The Almost Bare Collection is now available at all Bobbi Brown Counters and on www.bobbibrown.com. The collection includes Bronzing Powder ($33), High Shimmer Lip Gloss ($22), and the Almost Bare Fragrance ($60).

Justin Bieber's New Perfume Launch

Last year’s ‘My World’ fragrance marked the beginning of Justin Bieber’s newest business endeavor: fragrance! Next month, the pop star’s second fragrance, ‘Someday,’ is set to hit stores. ‘Someday’ combines a mix of fruity scents like mandarin, pear, and wild berries with jasmine and creamy vanilla.

The small bottle is topped off with a red, heart-shaped flower, which reminds us of Marc Jacob’s equally gorgeous fragrance, ‘Lola,’ recognized by its similarly carved plastic top. The bottle is also includes a crystal lock and key from Justin, "so fans can carry his heart around with them wherever they go."

‘Someday’ will be marketed at a higher price point than ‘My World.' It will be sold at Macy’s, Sephora, Lord & Taylor, Dillard’s, and Nordstrom’s, as opposed to ‘My World’, which was a Wal-Mart exclusive. ‘Someday’ will be priced at $25-$35, with a portion that will go toward charity. The TV commercial will debut during this week's episode of Glee.

"Giving back has always been incredibly important to me, but let's be honest… I wanted to create a fragrance for my female fans that I can't get enough of… that I want to get next to and I can't stay away from. I know they'll love the scent, but also the opportunity to support some amazing charities. It's a gift that gives back,’ Justin Bieber said of the scent. ‘’Someday’ is the idea that we can change the world, make our dreams come true, and even be with the one person that means everything."

Mint Green for SPRING/SUMMER 2011

So, if you read my Saturday post (My Newest Obsession: Jeffrey Campbell 99 TIE Mint Green Suede Wedges), you'll know that I'm totally loving the mint green trend now that the weather is warming up! I think what I really love about it is that its a summery shade, but a cool tone. I'm far more of a winter gal, so cool tones > warm shades. Always.

Anyways, as I mentioned in another post, I'm totally in love with these shoes. Think I should SPLURGE?!

In addition to the shoes, InStyle tweeted a few weeks ago, asking its followers which shade of nail polish they preferred for this season! My answer? MINT GREEN. And this was before everyone was obsessing over it...

InStyle and Jeffrey Campbell aren't the only ones getting into the trend! No, perhaps the latest (and greatest!) use of mint green was accomplished by none other than my absolute favorite style blogger, Bebe Zeva. (Check out my interview with Bebe HERE!).

Last week, Bebe posted an adorable outfit (see: Asleep At A Party) in which she wore her famous grunge Doc Martin's, veiled hat, and, to my extreme pleasure, a vintage mint green night robe. Now, I totally don't expect to see anyone else (other than Bebe Zeva and Taylor Momsen!) wearing night clothes out of the house, but the spring vibe is definitely there! And, its simply gorgeous:

Now, I'm well aware that I'm totally, completely obsessed with everything mint green all of a sudden.... Its actually pretty funny because I usually hate mint everything. In fact, I'm even allergic to York Mints!!! (Yes, and Gatorade, too, its true.)

But honestly, its a very unique shade that we really don't see much. When it comes to greens, its typically either olive, dark, or lime green. Never, ever mint. So, obsessed or not, I plan to enjoy the trend!!

My Current Obsession: Jeffrey Campbell 99 TIE Mint Suede Wedges

After walking through Soho for countless hours yesterday afternoon, I stumbled into my absolute favorite store of all-time (seriously!), LF. I've loved LF as far back as I can remember, beginning the first time I walked into LF's Royal Palm Beach location. Simply amazing. It was fate!

Anyways, as much as I LOVE LF, I typically attempt to avoid buying TOO much from their stores. Why? Because its pricey as hell! (I'm just a broke fashion student, remember?) Every now and then, though, I do splurge!

Back to the shoes. So I was in LF Soho on Spring Street, just browsing through racks and racks of incredibly amazing pieces of fashion excellence (like my explanation? I'm totally rambling here, I know.), when I saw them: An incredibly, incredibly amazing pair of mint green suede wedges, made by none other than Jeffrey Campbell, of course! I tried them on, and they were simply incredible. Here are some pics:

Also, as much as I absolutely LOVE the mint green trend, not everyone does. You may NOT be into green, but that doesn't mean you have to miss out! They're available in other colors as well:

So, what do you guys think?! Love the shoes as much as I do, or totally hate them? And, how do you feel about the mint green pair- Do you love it, or do you prefer them in pink, purple, white, or black? Comment below!

Available HERE for $115.

YSL Volupte Sheer Candy Launch

My newest obsession comes from none other than Yves Saint Laurent, who consistently delivers the absolute best in cosmetics. After reading about new Volupte Sheer Candy in the Nylon Blog, I was instantly in love. After all, anything in Nylon is greater than life. (Yes, you can quote that!)

Volupte Sheer Candy is a collection of six bright shades of lipstick, which are said to describe the Yves Saint Laurent woman. “She loves for the pleasure of loving. She listens to her desires.” The ultimate YSL woman (as well as the new Volupte Sheer Candy!) is described by international YSL makeup artist Lloyd Simmonds as “seduction, sensuality and temptation, bordering on sinfulness.”

As if that isn’t alluring enough, each of the six shades has a slight mango fragrance. It’s strong enough to evoke feelings of excitement, but yet subtle enough to avoid being overpowering. In addition to the added spring/summer scent, the packaging is simply gorgeous. Each tube combines silver, red, and yellow gold, accented with the famous YSL symbol, to create a truly unique and classic product, which will soon be a staple in your daily makeup routine. Or, at least it will be in mine.

YSL Volupte Sheer Candy is now available, for $30 each, in the following shades:
  1. N°1 Lush Coconut
  2. N°2 Dewy Papaya
  3. N°3 Juicy Grapefruit
  4. N°4 Succulent Pomegranate
  5. N°5 Mouthwatering Berry
  6. N°6 Luscious Cherry

Creating The Aquanaut with NEW Aqua Liner

In celebration of Make Up For Ever’s NEW Aqua Liner, Sephora has enlisted Make Up For Ever’s National Educator, Jessie Powers, to show us how to use Aqua Liner! Here, Jessie walks us through how to create the ‘aquanaut’ look using Aqua Liner. Above is a diagram of exactly how the end result should look. If you can’t seem to read the super tiny steps above, here they are below:

1. Draw a thin line of liquid liner centered on the upper lash line directly above the pupil.

2. To create the liner “tail”, choose the end point of your tail slightly above and outside the natural lash line. Then, with your eyes open and focused forward, draw a line from the tail’s end point down toward the outer corner of the lash line.

3. Next, with the eyes open and focused forward, draw a line from the end of the tail connecting it to the liner on the center of the upper lash line. Continue these strokes until the tail is completely filled in.

4. Finally, draw a liner from the inner corner of the upper lash line to the middle of the upper lash line, connecting the two sections.

5. To embellish the cat eye, draw a thin line of Aqua Liner 'Turquoise' directly above the black liner being careful to taper both the inner and outer corners.

Bebe Zeva's Enviable Life: Part 2

Exclusive Interview with Style Blogger Extraordinaire Bebe Zeva

Last month, we featured an exclusive interview with Bebe Zeva, one of our favorite style bloggers! Previously known solely as the ‘I Am Carles’ chick from Hipster Runoff, Bebe now runs her own style blog titled 'Fated To Be Hated' with her day-to-day looks -which are far more unique than most teenagers in the blogosphere.
Bebe has been featured in Nylon, Elle, Seventeen, and Teen Vogue, as well as a documentary made about her life that premiered in Soho earlier this year. In our last interview, she told us about her first visit to New York City, her opinion on the comparisons to fellow blogger Tavi Gevinson, and why she doesn’t like to be called a fashion blogger. (See our last interview here!) Here, Bebe Zeva tells us how she got started, how to be a successful fashion blogger, and why exactly she is ‘Fated to be Hated.’

How exactly did you get started in outfit blogging?
I had an account on Lookbook before I had a blog, so I used that platform as an outlet for expressing my style. As my looks grew in popularity, I realized that I needed to explain the inspiration and influence behind my choices. Having a blog was the best decision I ever made- it forced me to ask myself WHY I favor the things I do. It also encouraged me to formulate opinions on fashion-related facets that I normally wouldn't care about. I've done more research on runway shows and fashion houses in the last three months than I ever have in my entire life.

What are you planning next?

I have no idea, actually. I'd like to work more on my creative writing, like short stories and poems. It'd be great to find my voice in literature so that I can focus more on journalism.

Bebe ZevaAre you planning a career in fashion?

After taking a few courses in history, journalism, and design, it'd be lovely to immerse myself completely in the fashion universe. I've got a lot to learn for now, but at some point I'd like to write about icons, collections, trends, and subcultures. The most fascinating aspect of fashion is the sociology, and that's what I'd like to specialize in.

Where did the name 'Fated To Be Hated' come from?
I think "Fated To Be Hated" is the best explanation of my entire persona. No matter where I go or what I do, I am fated to be disliked by at least one person. It's like I was cursed with some hormone that turns people off as soon as they enter my vicinity. Always been that way, since first grade when I tried to fit in with my classmates but was essentially cast aside for having been "different." I was born in Florida, not Massachusetts like the rest of 'em. That sense of having been an outcast pretty much stayed with me for the rest of my career in middle and high school. Perhaps it's a self-fulfilling prophecy; I expect to be disregarded, hence I am.
Any advice to aspiring fashion bloggers?

Before you go about picking your URL and blogger template, ask yourself ,"what makes me more special than any other fashion blogger on the internet?". Once you find a concrete answer, write it down, and inflate

it until it completely consumes your identity. Every individual needs at least one 'it-factor' that sets them apart from the riff-raff. There are hundreds of thousands of girls and guys with computers who can recognize that Abbey Lee Kershaw has great street style, but so what? And why should I read YOUR critique of the Miu Miu Spring/Summer line? Give your readers a reason to trust your opinion. Show them that your style reflects a valid understanding of aesthetics, then they'll respect your thoughts on specific subjects more than anyone else's.
Bebe Zeva can be found online through her Blog, Twitter, Tumbler, and Lookbook.

Make Up Forever Aqua Liner

About a month ago, I wrote my most-viewed article of all time, Sephora Launches First Unretouched Makeup Ad. If the title isn’t self-explanatory enough, the article focuses on Sephora’s Make Up For Ever Line, which looks so good, its almost photoshoped. Therefore, there’s really ‘no need for retouching’. Sephora made history after launching what was the world’s first unretouched makeup ad.

The newest installment into the Make Up Forever line is the new Aqua Liner. The line is available in 15 bright colors, and is 100% water and weatherproof. This year, Make Up Forever was the official make up sponser of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami. Throughout the show, the makeup’s quality didn’t falter one bit as it faced hot lights, water, and an extremely humid climate.

Two main components of Aqua Liner’s formula are acrylic copolymer and an increased amount of polymers than other liners, which ensure that all water is locked out and unable to reach the liner itself. Aqua Liner also contains the same amino acids as apple juice, which assure that the high-color intensity will not fade throughout the day.

Whether a matte, iridescent, or diamond finish, each bold shade of Aqua Liner is complete with a firm applicator, designed similarly to a makeup brush. The thin, foam tip makes it easy to draw an extremely precise line. The following shades of Aqua Liner are now available for $23 exclusively at Sephora:
  • #1 Diamond Gold
  • #3 Iridescent Emerald Green
  • #4 Diamond Lagoon Green
  • #5 Diamond Turquoise Blue
  • #6 Iridescent Navy Blue
  • #7 Diamond Black Purple
  • #8 Iridescent Electric Purple
  • #9 Iridescent Fuchsia
  • #10 Iridescent Red
  • #11 Diamond Burgundy
  • #12 Mat Mocha
  • #13 Mat Black
  • #14 Diamond Multicolor Black
  • #15 Iridescent Anthracite
